International streaming service IZZY, together with Global powerhouse Fremantle, production house Abot Hameiri, and Israeli broadcaster Yes have partnered on the distribution of drama series KUGEL: The Shtisel’s Return, the prequel to the hit series SHTISEL. KUGEL launched on IZZY – February 28, 2025.
For anyone who missed the heartwarming charm of SHTISEL – KUGEL: The Shtisel’s Return has arrived. This prequel delves into the past lives of Nuchem (Sasson Gabay) and Libbi (Hadas Yaron), a father and daughter living in Antwerp’s Orthodox Jewish community, before their move to Israel. Nuchem makes a living selling gems and tall tales to widowed women, while Libbi teaches at seminary, but dreams of becoming a writer. Both are natural storytellers in their own ways. In the meantime, Nuchem and his wife Yides (Mili Avital), are on the brink of separation, but can’t seem to find the right match for Libbi before their impending divorce. When Libbi has an unexpected encounter with a handsome, slightly odd Orthodox young man on the tram, it’s love at first sight. But who’s ever heard of an upstanding young couple who met on a tram?
